E70 2009 35D yellow parking light
Been through your forums and found a few people with similar problems with their e70s parking brake. I have 'parking brake failed' warning on my display. I can use the emergency hand brake. So if I'm driving slowly and pull up the switch the handbrake activates and stops the car. Also if I turn on the car and pull the switch up the parking brake activates and you can not move but as soon as you click down the yellow light comes back and says its failed. I then can't use the switch also says auto hold failed if clicked. I have been under the car and found the actuator and all seems ok but haven't removed it yet because the brakes still work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Luke |

There are 2 distinctive actions that are shown to the user as one system. Anytime the engine is running and you pull the lever up, or activate auto-hold, all 4 brakes are squeezed thru the hydraulic system, the actual parking brake is not activated. Once the engine is shut off pulling the lever activates the actual park brake motor.
As always, the easiest way to find out more about the problem is to use some kind of scanner, OEM level preferably. |

I have a d can cable and have inpa/ncs etc software. Could I use these to get fault codes? Thanks again |

INPA should give you some usable results.

Im going to guess the parking brake actuator module needs work. Search around, there are folks replacing gears that seem to fail on other models:
BMW E65/66 7 Series Parking Brake Actuator Repair Kit - 09 5584 010 Of course BMW only has a complete module for US$800 as I recall |

Just an update on my issue.
Can confirm the nipple of the actuator was broken. I ended up buying a actuator from eBay for £200 with cables. Installed the new/used actuator and reset the fault codes using inpa and my cheap obd2 cable and works perfect. Thanks for your replies. Luke |

Hi lwc
I have exactly the same problem but instead of ordering a complete unit I order the little motor that was inside. As I see from you it wasn't the problem of the little motor. If you change the complete unit don't you need to go to the Bmw to learn the new part in the computer of the e70? Can you do it with the obd? Can you tell me where you part your obd and the handbrake unit ? |

You do need to code the new EMF module.
