On an only slightly related topic, is it possible to ADD error checking to the DDE? For example, it would be nice if we could add, or maybe adjust if it already exists, a check engine light for when the stupid thermostat fails on these diesels. Gassers have a SES if the engine fails to reach operating temp. Yet many of us don't know that our thermostat is running 20°C cooler than intended. It is doable to add a new sub-routine in the DDE, but only if someone has the original manufacturer description of the programming structure. But after all the t-stat fails only every 60-80k miles. Which reminds me that I have to check mine.

Yeah, I need to set myself a maintenance reminder to check the coolant tempt while driving.

I've never wrenched on a BMW before, do they use one-time use "stretch" bolts like VW/Audi does?
