CIC Retrofit Questions.......

I've been assembling the parts for a CIC retrofit into my '08 X5, but I can't figure out where the USB port is supposed to be located in the glove box. Can someone with an LCI X5 and Navigation describe the location or post a pic of their USB port? Also if you know the part number of the piece of the glovebox that has the hole for the USB port, that would be helpful. I can't find anything in the ETK that shows the part. I can find a cover for the port though.
Thanks

It is on the left wall of the glove box.

Thanks, this is a good start. Any chance you can give me a location to center of port.....x inches above bottom, y inches from front side?

I don't want to make a hole at the wrong spot.

I personally would never trust the measurements from someone else. Why not go and "look" at the used BMW dealer? Drive up there and ask if you could test drive a used one; go down the road, take all the pictures and measurements you want, go back to the dealer and drive home in your vehicle with all of the information you could ever ask for.

One step further, go to dealership and find one you like and drive it home, done.

ahh....because the dealer is a 60 mile round trip perhaps? Knowing it's on the left side is close enough. When I pull the glove box I'll be able to find a good spot for it. Looks like this photo is close.

Hi,
Did this retrofit to my 08 4.8 already 2 winters ago.
Here's where I put mine...

For me, there was no science to it, just where it fit and there was clearance for it.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the pic. Looks like that's in the left wall of the glove box....correct? I agree location isn't critical, I just wanted to know where the factory put the port so I could try there first.

There's on other aspect of the retrofit I'm not clear on, did you have to change the connector on the iDrive harness to mate to the late iDrive controller? I've bought the connector but I'm getting different stories on whether it's neded or not.

Correct, it's on the left side wall of the glove box. I centered it front to back and just above the ridge that is about 1/2 way down the side wall.

I don't remember to be honest, but I'm pretty sure that the "kit" that I bought (from a donor 2012 X6M) came with the correct cable/connector included... Sorry.
