Here's how it works -> https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1e...ew?usp=sharing

As you can see, unfortunately the CMOS sensor itself is part of the rear module itself which does, among other things, the superimposition of the lines. The video signal that leaves the module is modified, not the raw image captured by the CMOS.

After finding this out I've abandoned the project since I have no intention to disassemble my crappy yet perfectly functioning rear view camera.

Btw, removing the stupid notice does make it marginally better...

But that reverse cam... Just so bad. My friend's Hyundai has a way clearer cam.

Anyone here managed to get a better cam installed? Is there a way to get it done as a "DIY " thing?

Pardon me if this issue has been spoken of earlier, but I couldn't go through all the threads here regarding the reverse cam.

Cheers
CIC camera found in 2010+ models is much better. I actually find it better than, say, in the latest MDX my friend drives. So you can upgrade to CIC and enjoy much better picture.

You need to upgrade to the camera module and camera, remove RFK module and run new LVDS cable to from new camera to camera module. You also have to run a new harness for the camera module.

Its not a trivial matter to "upgrade" to CIC camera

The camera itself isnt too bad. The real issue is the CCC screen resolution. If you upgrade the CCC to CIC, keeping the existing camera - you can improve the backup camera picture considerably.

I'll be soon selling my complete USA CIC upgrade including Apps and combox so keep checking the classifieds if thats of interest to you.

I had an 09 x6 and the cam was acceptable during the day if you had the settings tweaked just right but in low light situations it was absolutely useless unless you held the brakes to illuminate more to the rear (still not good just actually able to see any obstruction behind) so did some research and found that others had added brighter backup lights and that helped. I ended up getting rid of it for other issues, N63 campaign announced a week after trading, and now have a 2012 X6M with the CIC and new cam and absolutely no complaints at all!

The only problem I have with mine is that a lot of light reflects off of the license plate and frame at night. It's worse without the frame and when the lens gets some road grime on it. A good portion of the bottom right corner of the plate takes up the bottom left corner of the camera. Getting rid of that would go a long way.
