How do you do an E70 4.8 engine change?
I am considering purchasing a 2007 E70 4.8 that has a bad engine. (Jumped time)
I've been searching for information on what the actual process is for doing an engine change and if it is something an individual can do without a lift? I've done several older GMs, Boat motors, smaller foreign cars etc but never anything like the E70. From what I see on-line for the E53, people are removing the front end and fenders and pulling the engine and transmission all at the same time as opposed to splitting the engine/transmission and then removing just the engine, which is how I would think to do it. Any help greatly appreciated. |

6 and 8 cyl engines I always remove complete with transmission and, if possible, exhaust.
Keep in mind that N62 in E70 may differ a bit from same engine installed in other models. |

I dont see a reason to remove the fenders, they are out of the way anyway. Some time ago someone changed N62 in E53 with one from E60 I believe. He had to replace oil pan, exhaust and other anciliaries, but it worked. You need to do some research, ther emay be no differencies at all. The engine from X5 will be most expensive and one from a 750i will probably be cheapest(these cars are cheapest to buy salvaged).

Usually, the easiest way is to put hood in service position, remove front of car (fenders stay in place), disconnect all engine trans wiring, hoses, etc, slightly lift engine and roll it out the front of the car.
Way too difficult to remove trans if engine is coming out anyway. I did this on an E46, never a E70 but in theory the process is the same. |

Most of Service work I see is done by disconnecting the subframe with the engine with the car and lifting the car straight up.
