thanks for all your work. I was able to fix in about an hour after getting the parts. A few thoughts I picked up right side of hood and secured which allowed enough room to cut bracket without cutting radiator shroud. You an buy 12"metal blade and it reaches fine. finally when connecting new cable to drivers side lock. This was very hard. I ended up cutting top of bracket and replaced cable from the top. I can add picture if anyone needs it. I also strung a wire thru the lock to help put it back in place. For me this was the hardest part of the whole job.

thanks again for all your work

I have had this happen on my 07 X5 twice, both times the passengers did cable popped out. First time took me nearly 6hrs to release the hood. Second time was 3 minutes once I found a metal rod. On my car I had to go in a little higher than the video above. I zip tied the cable to the bracket this time so this should hold it in place and no need to buy anothe cable.

I had the issue a while ago, so my memory is not great on how exactly that connection attached BUT I do remember, the first time I put that back together in that exact spot I didn't pay close attention and didn't realize you MUST put the cable attachment in that location a particular orientation and then rotate it to "lock" it in place. I had to take it all apart and do it again when I realized after playing with the old parts.

I'm not sure if that's what you're experiencing, but I'd be VERY suspicious it is, the location you have the zip tie is exactly the locking connection that isn't obvious unless you really study it and pay close attention. You will think the cable is in correctly, but it's not locked. it WILL lock if you do it right.

great thread - I followed the video on #22 - once you push the foam out of the way use a pen light and you will see a curved piece of metal and the inside silver piece of the latch attached to the hood - you want to get to the left of the inside latch (so you are between the two posts, on top of the curved piece of metal, and stay as flat as you can.

I used apiece of 1/4" acrylic rod I had laying around. took an hour to figure out I should be to the left of the inside latch, on top of the curved piece with the cutout and level.

best wished if this happens to you!
