Just to update the group. I picked up a damn good lease on the 2015 Sonata 2.0 Turbo Limited for 0 down and $253 a month for 3yr/45k miles. The car has Full Range Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop/Start, Lane Keep Assist, Memory seats, Auto dimming rear view mirror, Auto trunk open (In 3 seconds after you walk up to the trunk), Comfort Access Keyless Entry and Keyless Start, Bluelink telematics system that includes Send to car nav from Google Maps, Remote start, Remote door lock/unlock, Geo Fencing and Speed Limiter (similar to BMW Assist), Wifi in car, Lane Change Assist, Heated and Ventilated seats, Dual Zone automatic climate control, Panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats 12 speaker 600watt Harmon/Kardon(Infinity) sound system, Carplay and Android Auto, Leather seats, Rear Passenger Manual side sun shades, HID Xenon lights, Automatic High Beams, rear view camera with park assist and so many other features that I probably haven't explored yet. It also has a 16.3 cubic feet trunk that is ginormous. probably enough to swallow all that baby gear and the back seat is roomy enough (Car is classified as Full Size) for the rear facing car seat. Car has 5 star crash test and safety ratings.
That said, I also have the option to purchase the Route 66 extended warranty on the X5. $3200 including the electronics and Diesel coverage which I confirmed covers the emissions system (including SCR system and the Diesel Particulate Filter).
So the plan is for the Sonata to become the family car for long trips where I cannot afford being stranded. The X5 with the warranty becomes the in town hauler/my fun car/family car when we have her/my parents traveling with us along with the baby. Now to make the decision on whether to pull the trigger on that Route 66 warranty or to just sock away $3200 in the bank and use it for future repairs if and when they occur? Btw, the warranty covers until Dec 2019 or 120,400 miles whichever comes first and given that I will start putting the miles on the Sonata, the X5 will not accumulate as many miles as it does today.
I also have the X5 listed on craigslist just in case I get a good offer on it. Carmax gave me an offer for $19800. Local dealer trade-in quotes range from 17.5-19k. Can't make up my mind
