2011 X5 50i N63 N63B44 engine Engine temp is high

Hello everyone i Have a 2011 x5 50i with N63B44 engine. I will attach picture of I drive system telling me, "Engine Temperature is high. Drive moderately to cool engine.If temperature increases again, have the system checked by your BMW center." I get this message even when i start vehicle in the morning when engine cold? any one experience this.

I believe there is a secondary coolant pump on your turbos that can fail- the motor is cold but it may be the secondary cirucit is overheated?

Thanks ARD i will take the Auxiliary pump out and bench test the unit more than likely it did go out.

i don't have a fault code present only the message on the idrive

While I love the DIY spirit, this is really not a smart idea.

Buy the softwre and bluetooth dongle to check codes and run tests. Lots of available SW choices... Do a search. If you plan on keeping the car for a bit, invest in the tools

DO NOT take out the pump to 'bench test'. I mean how would you even DO that? Have a schematic? What if it is intermittent?

I had that message on my car last week they had to replace the auxiliary turbo water pump.

bench testing the aux pump wouldn't be that much of an issue. electrically it's a fairly simple component. the most important part would be to keep it primed and not allow it to run dry. these pumps use water as lubricant/coolant. running them dry will likely damage the impeller. although without knowing the operating specs, i.e. flow rate, pressure & power consumption, it's impossible to know whether or not it's doing its job correctly.
