Mine went in for the recall fix today. My SA just called to say it's done and they found the OFHG leaking, est $755 to fix that, but covered under CPO warranty.
Kind of surprised that gasket is leaking already, only have 41k on it ('12) .

Done that job a few times on the M54; not sure what the N55 engine entails.

my 35d still doesn't show driveshaft recall, so I guess they are not affected? (L657624)

I am reviving this thread and URGE ANYONE who owns an E70 to get their DRIVESHAFT inspected ASAP. Vehicle that was not covered by the extended warranty/recall so never got notice about it. Manufactured post April 2013 - date the recall ended which is when the part that supposedly corrected the defect in the U-Joint "propeller shaft". MAY BE ONE OF THE FIRST SUCH CASES of failure of the part that supposedly fixed the problem. U-Joint broke, went through oil pan which was ripped open, smoke engulfing the cabin. The replacement part isn't any better than the old part. I am not at liberty to elaborate further than this at this moment but posting this very well might save you the value of your car, never mind a life. There is a possibility that the U-Joint becomes red hot and can travel at time of failure...
I do hope I have everyone's attention... |

$35,000 of repairs...
Inspected your driveshaft recently? Was your build date late 2013 with the supposed new and better part? Have 100k on your replacement driveshaft?
You should all know that this could happen to you. Busted at highway speeds after passing over a slight change of grade. Took out the oil pan. Opened a fuel vent hose, which could have caused a fire or worse an explosion. Originally told it wasn't covered due to the post April 2013 build date. That's when I fought. And won. Don't lose or be a loser. Get yours inspected every so often. |
