Right two-stage brake lamp! Warning fixed

Hi everyone. My X5 was telling me that the right two-stage brake lamp was out, but when I checked the bulb it was clearly fine. I cleaned the bulb socket contacts with fine grit sand paper and reinstalled. Warning went right out and hasn't come back. Thought I'd share in case anyone gets this error.

Actually this just popped up last week, albeit for the left side. Off the next couple drives, came back for one more, and has been off since. I'll keep this in mind if it sticks around.

Let me know how it goes. Might not be a bad idea just to clean up those contacts a bit anyway.

I'm getting this same message from the idrive from my 2007 E66;
right brake lamp
right two-stage brake lamp malfunction

Today I removed and inspected the bulbs and sockets today and couldn't find anything usual with corrosion. Even with the brake check I didn't see any bulbs out. I read someone on another forum say these bulbs only light up with the ABS system activated in slippery braking conditions??
I'm going to try the sandpaper, some grease and see what happens ! I will report the update.

Worst case scenario you can deactivate the feature via NCS Expert.

On second inspection there was no corrosion but it seemed like at the contact points there was a little bit of black discoloring on the contacts, probably some minor oxidation of the nickle plating. so i used a diamond file and dab of D100 to the contact points and the error message hasn't returned

The problem started two weeks after removing and reinstalling the bulbs for some work I was doing replacing the rear boot lid open button called the rear grip strip.

Going to have to take a look at these contact points. I’ve had the warning lamp on for months no but the brake lamps seem to work.
