If you go in and out of the car a lot then go with the magnetic one, i have that and its awesome. So simple and my phone has never dropped from it. Its even better if you have a case so you can put the sheet magnet on or under the case so a seamless look.

I've used many mounts and I personally like the vent mounts the best. Right now, like basilray, I'm using a vent mount magnetic mount. Very nice and convenient. You just get in your car, place your phone on the mount and you're done. No need to adjust anything. Like basilray said on the first reply, there are millions of brands out there, I personally have the Spigen brand and is working excellent for me. https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Magnet.../dp/B0109JIQ0W

I too put the mount in the driver's vent to the right of the steering wheel, under the Idrive screen.

Thank you, have you had any issues with the mount being sturdy on the vent? Any risk of breaking the vent?

No issues at all. It is very sturdy and no risk of breaking the vents. The clip on the mounts have two different sizes for the vents, I believe the bigger one works well for our cars. I have a Samsung Note 4 so it's a big phone and have a case on it as well. There is no risk or fear that my phone will fall out unless someone slaps it out. Also, you can mount the phone in portrait or landscape thanks to the convenience of the magnets.

I use a KUDA leather mount which blends perfectly with my interior, KUDA custom leather mounts - BMW - X5 (E70) (07-13)

and I use a proclipusa holder for my Iphone 7+, Car Phone Holders and Dashboard Phone Mounts*-*ProClip USA
but they have a variety of holder types for most smartphone/tablet models including magnetic mounts like mentioned above.

If you like mounting over the vents, Proclip has mounts for that as well, BMW*X5-series *2008*Dashboard Mounts*-*ProClip USA

Otherwise KUDA has 2 mounts, 1 above I-Drive, and 1 for lower right of center console.

Thank you for the follow up boosted.

Bigjz - I had read a few recommendations for the proclips and kuda mounts but hadn't seen anything with installed pictures from a driver perspective. Do they interfere with glove box access?

I'll try and post a pic tomorrow after work. I currently have the center console mount installed. I'll post a pic of the high mount as well. It's just not installed. It does not negatively affect the glovebox or any controls when using my IPhone 7 plus

Magnetic vent mount here after trying other vent and windshield mounts. Nothing is simpler and cleaner. I use phone GPS every time with it (faster than CCC nav obviously) and placement is perfect.

I personally love the Anker brand myself.

Here are some pics for the lower mounts, using my Iphone 7+ case. Side view, and with glove box open, and glove box closed.
