X left me stranded

Well my X has failed me Went to post office and came back out, tried to start her up, no luck. Doesn't do anything. I got her towed home (got the tow service on my insurance ) and she is now sitting in my garage. I have no doubt that its the starter. Searched and all seem to point to the starter. I have just ordered a new starter (Bosch) and the bolts to match, along with 2 day shipping for $180.00. Not bad. Has anybody changed the starter on their e70 3.0si ? If so any tips? Wish me luck. I need her back running soon!

Wow, Ive never had a starter give out on me like that. BMWs typically give a little warning. They start to sound like a fork in the garbage disposal and then take 2-3 years to quit.

Are you sure it wasn't something electrical? Battery, alternator? Was it doing anything odd before you parked it? Any warning lights, ABS/Transmission failure lights? Or did it just nor start, yet all the electricals worked?

I got my Noco maintainer on her right now, but I doubt it is the battery. 2007 X5 (E70) wont crank/ start - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums

Most of the no crank/no start issues i'm read have been the starter. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

You know that the starter can be tested right?

Generally when a car won't start like that it's a dead battery, maybe a bad alternator or charging controller. Jump it and see if it starts.

Had a starter go out exactly how you describe on my E38 and have dealt with intermittent issues like this on an E39. The E39 starter would test just fine at Autozone, but eventually I did replace it and all has been fine since.

There have been several no-starts blamed on defective/corroded engine ground cable in recent weeks.

I had the battery on my Noco maintainer and got the battery fully charged. Same issue, push to start does nothing. I know I can hear the fuel pump and everything else seems to work fine, has to be the starter. Starter should be delivered today. Going to tackle this today or tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Try to make your own ground wire with jumper cables under the hood.
Use both leads to engine hoist bracket thats right up front and other two to the driver front bolt thats right by the headlight. Give that a try, easy test.

Mine wouldnt start one day and i was told to do that and it fired up. Not uncommon for the engine ground wire to corrode. I have a semi-permanent cable in the same way i just described on mine, been over a year and still going great.
