2012 xDrive50i w/Dinan - 1/4 Drag Experience
I believe it has Dinan Stages 1 - 4 on it (including inter-coolers and exhaust). It is a blast to drive, and yesterday I took it to the 1/4 drag strip in Fontana, CA. I went 13.84 seconds and trapped at 102.96 mph (with a .397 reaction time). This seemed 'slow' to me - I thought, based on other posts, that I should run in the mid 12s? Also, could someone please tell me what the specs are for my model X5 with the above mods? (it was 400 hp stock, but I'm wondering what the modified horsepower and torque numbers are) Thanks Last edited by Diversified Returns; 03-05-2017 at 08:56 PM. |

Well, according to the Dinan site, stage 4 gives you:
514 HP and 583 ft-lb torque. |

Time slips tell no lies! Everyone has 'an 11 second blah blah blah' until you see slips. Remember that a zillion factors contribute to a time.

HOW did you not look up what kind of power this thing might have before buying?? I would not have been able to resist.
Or maybe it DOESN'T have Stage 4...

what was your 50 foot roll out time? How did you launch? tires/weather/fuel? How did you stage, deep?
Car and Driver did a 12.5 second 1/4 @ 112 in an X5M. Your trap speed seem low. |

Here are a few replies to some comments / questions that I received above:
"a zillion factors contribute to a time." - But most should only vary one's time by a small margin - Tires should not matter much. It is AWD and tires didn't spin. - My reaction time was 0.397; plenty quick to allow a good drag time - My 60 ft time was 2.26; significantly faster than the Hemi 392 I was up against - Temp was 60 degrees and little humidity "HOW did you not look up what kind of power this thing might have before buying?? I would not have been able to resist." - Previous owner told me 500+ hp and 600+ ft lbs torque (he was wrong) - I spoke with Dinan and their quoted specs did not agree with previous owner's or other forum posts that I've seen. - Yes, looked up specs before purchase; but lots of mis-information out there - Figured I'd ask the forum to see if any experts could tell me concretely "Or maybe it DOESN'T have Stage 4..." - The BMW shop who installed all of the Dinan upgrades for the former owner gave me the records showing me what it has on it. - Dinan, through the VIN, also confirmed it has Stage 4 I just don't think 13.8 seconds is very fast |

I would have guessed that it would be faster too.

It is an almost 6000lbs beast, so to go in the 12s you may need something close to 800hp. all wheel drive helps, but only at the beginning. You have to load the engine before the take-off, which may be nerve wrecking.
Given mine is diesel and with a 6 speed transmission, but it will drop `1.2 sec 0-60mph if I brake boost mine. If I just take my foot off the brake and smash the gas, the torque converter will unlock, it will hold first and second gear until redline and any sustantial boost will appear on 3rd gear. I never go to exteremes, but when brake boosted good, it will launch with a TQ locked and very crisp and quick upshifts and 0-60 under 5 sec. Last edited by bawareca; 03-08-2017 at 09:32 AM. |
