TR has a $70 rebate going on right now as well for Conti & Michelin. Decision time

I'll be sure to do the fuel filter, anyone have a good DIY? Or should I leave this up to a shop?

There is a good DIY on Bimmerfest I believe - but you need to bleed the system with DIS afterwards as I said previously - If you have DIS be sure it works on your E70, its not a bad DIY but you have to do the priming procedure after replacement

A couple of the essential topics:

Don't Fear the Fuel Filter: DFFF -- Dont Fear the Fuel Filter

Check the Engine Compartment Dividers (very common issue): Error code 4B99 and 483D - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums

Thermostat discussion and DIY: https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...-diy-pics.html

Hope the above is helpful. Good luck!

So the filter will prime itself without intervention from DIS? Good to know.

Add the discussion about the PCV/catch can to those other 2 threads and it's like the 35d bible as far as I'm concerned.

WRONG - The fuel filter itself will not prime, even the OP's post on that thread says he left key in on position for 10-20 seconds and it still started up dry. Read through that whole thread, the pump does not prime itself.

This is a common misconception from doing gasoline engines which do prime their fuel filters when key is in position 2. I have not met a common rail diesel (VW or BMW for that matter) that does this without using a service function software to prime the pump after a filter change.

When the car cranks for 10-15 seconds after the change, it is because it is running the HPFP dry which is terrible for the life of the pump and can lead to total failure.

If you don't want to risk damage you have to prime via DIS or similar tool, or "hotwire" the pump to run and prime itself using the instructions on page 5 of that thread, but that also entails removing seats and jumping wires -

Fair enough. What about the fuel pump relay. Is it still at the rear fuse box on the diesel? Seems like the easier place to jump power.

03.29.17 - First maintenance items: Refilled DEF and installed AFE Intake Filter @53,700

Vehicle took the entire bottle of DEF.
AFE Intake Filter was very easy to install. Filter that was in the vehicle looked like it was never replaced! Absolutely filthy, probably the worst intake filter I've ever seen. After seeing that, i'll be tackling an oil service earlier than expected. I don't have to do an oil service for another 1,300 miles (after looking through previous records). But after seeing that intake filter, I am curious to see what the oil filter will look like...

Had our first issue as well. Comfort access, bluetooth and radio stopped working. We went on vacation for a week, and those items aren't working now. Message upon startup "No Warning Tones"?? No idea what that means. I am investigating

I did not use DIS when I did mine. It started after a few tries and no issues since as I like to roll the dice. Fuel filter change is relatively easy. There should be some info I posted
