Air driver side and pessenger side is different

Hi guys,

Yes, I did search.
Anyway, both passenger side and driver side temp set 60 and turned on air-condition.
It blew cold air and no problem but driver side air is a lot weaker than passenger side.
even both side set same, driver feels like 1 and passenger side like 2.

So I pull out center air vent and find out cover on driver side was closed. (cover that located deep inside), so I manually pushed opened the cover(kind of flip cover that close and open) and then both side air is same.

Does anybody know why driver side flip cover is closed?
DO I have to change something?

Thank you for any advice.
By the way, my car is 2007 X5 3.0

I don't know how those internal leuvers are actuated on these cars, but it's entirely possible that it was stuck or that one has failed. Probably just stuck. I'm not aware of any common issue like this.

Does the flap open if you have it set to AUTO?

Also, have you checked the Climate settings for Driver and Passenger side in iDrive?

You can tweak the temps independent from what is shown on the climate control displayed temp. It may be that the driver's side is set warmer and might not be blowing as hard as the other side.

On screen, both shows 60. I will double check it. Thanks

Here, I mean on this screen in idrive. There's one for driver and one for passenger. Make sure that temp adjustment is set the same ( I have it set right in the middle). Otherwise it tweaks the air coming out of the vents on whichever side hotter or colder even if both temp readouts on the lower controls are set the same.....

I just checked and you are right.
Driver side was pink color while passenger side is blue.
I set both blue color for now.

Anyway, I manually opened the flip cover already and let's see how it goes.

Thank you again.

Funny. This is a shitty feature on the X5. The individually adjustable center vent is a BMW classic feature but it's so damn cumbersome on these cars. I'd prefer the old school scroll adjuster.

+1,000,000 on this statement! My E38 isn't nearly as technologically advanced, but at least my IHKA easily adjusted and controlled.
