Regeneration occurs at lower speeds and may be inhibited by a number of factors.
At least with VW cars, when a critical mass of soot is collected in the DPF regeneration is no longer possible because of the risk of fire(more soot, higher temp in the DPF. The engine will probably run, but in limp mode, no boost. Next is replacement or removing the DPF and cleaning it mechanically.
