Its completely possible, I'm running a CIC with BMW apps in my 2009. Why not go NBT though? CIC is cheaper, but if your unit is completely dead....

Here is a good thread on the CIC retro

Next Best Thing. Theres NBT EVO, with different variations all the way to NBT EVO ID6 with the touch screen as used in the 2018 5 series.

lol I should have been able to work that acronym out.

I'm sticking with CIC retrifit from Bimmer Tech. Gonna order today most like. Still bummed that I shelled out for an extended warranty because these cars are expensive to fix and the first thing that goes is an expensive but not covered part. At least I can upgrade tho. Can't imagine spending this bundle and ending up with the same old IDrive Business.

I hope that's not true. I plan to have a shop do the install so if I go NBT or CIC retrofit I hopefullywill avoid the pitfalls.

Is Carplay part of ID6?

It can be had with ID5 too. I have it on my MY 17 340 with ID5. Its just an FSC enabling code similar to how Apps worked with CIC

I was close to ordering when I learned that the new radio won't have a Sirius tuner built in. Bummer.

You can get an NBT with Sirius and HD Radio as long as it is US version. EVO seems to only be EU and does not have Sirius or HD Radio. The NBT I purchased from Bimmer Retrofit has what I want there, just had to specify when I was preparing to order. It can be received.
