Shall I still keep my X5? What I has gone wrong with my X5 in the last 4 years.

I had the car from 65,000 miles, it is now 85,000 and so far reliability is not so good.

Recently leaking coolant, I replaced :
Top and bottom radiator hose
Temperature sensor
Thermostat

Failed and replaced parts:
AC condenser
Front coil springs x2
Rear air bags x2
Alarm siren
Oil cooler hose
Expansion tank
Blocked - windshield washer
Tyres and brakes
CCV x2

Still have problems with :
Tail lights have water
Water in passenger footwell - when raining hard.
Blue smoke (occasional) - worst of all
Signs of vacuum leak (maybe)
Signs of oil leak under the engine

I fear that the blue smoke is the deciding factor, after replacing CCV and realising its still in good condition. I fear the next thing to change is the infamous valve stem seal.

I enjoy mine despite same problems. Cost to replace with equivalent car is not worth it to me due to electronic steering.
When i DIY the problem stays fixed.

those V8 X5 has lots of issues......I suggest to sell it and get a diesel X5
you get the torque like a V8 and get very good gas mileages.

We haven't had ours very long, but if it's any consolation between ~128k and ~143k we've only had to replace the rear air bags and the oil t-stat gasket. Otherwise been fantastic.

I have the same make and model. Latest issue is the AC compressor pulley bearing. Luckily its a cheap $15 fix. I plan on keeping mine until its paid off in two years and selling it. Whatever I replace it with, it will be a diesel.

Thanks for your replies.

Although it's an effort, it's actually satisfying to do the DIY jobs I did. But the stem seal I'm scared of. I need a few days to do it, and I don't have a garage. I will observe for now how bad it will get.

A tough decision, I'd suggest swap for a diesel. I bought a 2007 4.8, stem seals went bad and was able to trade it in, chose the diesel 35d over another 4.8 and don't regret it at all. However, I remember reading somewhere that around 2009 they changed to larger diameter valve stems and this reduced the problem. I may be wrong on this.

Yes, I thought of that, changing to a newer 2010 50ix, until I stumbled upon the AGA tool for N63. https://youtu.be/fg3kgBWaGkk
