Well some googling shows everything from fuel pump priming, air suspension doing its thing or even electric water pump.

I'll buy the fuel pump or suspension. Its definitely not the water pump.

It's the damn fuel pump. Y'all know this. Every BMW for the past decade (at least) has made this sound almost every time we open the door. The air suspension pump only comes on when you start the car as needed and on the rare occasion after you start it and turn it off quickly. Two distinct sounds.

Well seeing as my 2013 is the only bmw I have that is less than a decade old I have never had one that turns the fuel pump on without the key being involved....

If I didn't have self leveling what else would come on pump sounding wise just by opening the door? Not arguing at all just wondering if its not a pump for the suspension what else would it be?

Its some kind of electric pump sound.
FWIW...I didn't take it that way at all...I figured you were just trying to discover/figure-out what was making the sound.

Our '08 has self leveling, no 3rd row. I don't know how to tell if the dealer ordered it that way or a buyer. It's listed under standard equipment, for whatever that's worth.

Was not ordered with a hitch, someone along the way put what looks to be a Curt on, but there's no labels, no wiring, so I'm putting in the OEM one this spring.

As for a quick check on springs vs bags, you should be able to tell from the inside. Lift up the trunk floor, the bags lock in to a hole back there. I don't know what will be there if you have springs, I'm assuming some sort of plug.

Just check a air bag replacement DIY for what the top clip looks like.

I have adaptive drive, and self leveling, but only S2VAA shows up in the option list. I believe S220A is a stand alone option if you don't have the adaptive drive.
