I believe the p/n you're looking for is 65.50.9.179.842

i'm in the UK (not sure if that makes a difference) the part i was quoted is 838 MHz whereas it seems the more common ones on ebay are 315MHz. I know it uses the radio frequency through the key fob but not sure any of this makes a difference.

Possible. Have you tried to input your VIN in RealOEM? -> https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select

It should drill down the options.

But yes, it appears that it comes in several frequencies -> https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=65_1718

Yours should be 868MHz (not the 838MHz you quoted). A way to confirm is to get the build sheet of your car. You can get it here -> https://www.bmwvin.com/ (again input the last 7 of your VIN, just like RealOEM). Our X5 shows to have "S876A Radio frequency 315 MHz". If yours doesn't have that code than it should default to 868MHz.

If that's the case the p/n is the one you had 65.50.6.921.563.

Ditto ZetaTire and decode your VIN to find out what your radio frequency is. Europe remote keys usually operate on the 433/434 MHz frequency...so if that's listed on your build sheet and the rear DVD remote is supposed to operate over the same frequency as your key...then the 11 digit BMW part nbr you was given is way wrong.

You can look down the part nbr list ZT posted and see what the part nbr for the 434 Mhz DVD remote is. If there are other compatible remotes for that part nbr (ended or succeded)...they will be listed if you click on the part nbr on the realoem.com website.

Good luck.

I believe this remote needs coded by BMW (£100) so I dont want to buy the wrong one.

What is the LAST 7 digits of your VIN?

Perhaps you're overlooking it. In the pic below...you can see the option code for the radio frequency (for the US market) highlighted in yellow for an X5 with VIN: L666318. I believe the European RF option code is only a number or two different...see Radio Frequency (RF) option codes below:

  • S874A Radio frequency 434 MHz (Europe & other markets)
  • S875A Infrared remote control (Europe & other markets)
  • S876A Radio frequency 315 MHz (North America, Australia, & other markets)
