Another Headlight question

I’ve searched the various posts for this question but I may have been suffering from a dullard moment:

What are the inside headlights on the front of my car for? I thought they would be for the high beams but when I activate the HBs, nothing happens.

It that I’m complaining but any help is appreciated.

They are in fact for nothing, only for esthetic. LOW and also HIGH beam comes both from outer lens, there are bi- xenon headlights because of that

I thought they illuminate while turning but the foglights do that.

They were relegated to "flash to pass" when bi-xenon became de regure.

Interesting discovery: I coded my flash to pass to be the high beams and it turns out nothing happens. Guess there are no bulbs in my model

Even though you coded them to do something else...do you still have the flash-to-pass feature when you pull the turn indicator handle toward the rear of the vehicle? And if they do "flash" which bulbs are illuminating?

Seems like the flash to pass brings on the Main HIDs in our 2013, a very odd idea since they take a moment to come to brightness. Was also surprised to see the inner lights are basically dummies on the e70s..

And I hate that the Fog lights come on when you turn, can that be coded out, looks so stupid, and I don't see any improvement in visibility when they come on, don't even notice them usually, unless I see myself in a store window, and think, why is a fog light burned out..

You can code them out. I hated that as well. There’s a whole forum on Bimmerfest dedicated to coding.

Thanks for the education on the e70 set-up. My e53 with adaptive bi-xenons have a halogen bulb in the locations nearest the kidney grills.

Just a note for future BMW ownership...if you get a BMW with LED foglights...you'll be able to actually see the extra illumination when making turns. I guess we can take the early implication of this technology as the guinea pigs...and the next iteration was slightly improved upon.

There's been times when turning into roads/driveways/entries (in my f06) on a dark night and the street is not illuminated...when the foglight turns on when turning...it has helped by illuminating the edge of a driveway or curb which helped me stay in line with the drive/road/entry/etc. Or when backing out the driveway the night before garbage day...it helps to not run into the cans when the steering wheel is turned and illuminates stuff usually off in the darkness and to the side of the car.
