It's like you took ard's comment to the extreme, got very upset, read my replies and only seemed to process only my anecdote at the end. Did you read any other part of it? Sweet Jesus, sorry for arguing with you, expert. Didn't realize you understood it all and then rest of us (ard and I, I guess?) are so unlearned.

All of these measurements affect tire wear. I EVEN SAID THAT IN A PREVIOUS REPLY. I categorically disagree with your assertion that caster can affect tire wear on its own. It will only affect tire wear in concert with other measurements as I said in a previous reply. It also depends on other factors that you seem to not address with your blanket statement. You know, geometry.

You have provided zero facts, however, and resorted to banal and puerile tactics to force your beliefs on the rest of us.

You're right and I was wrong. Thanks for setting me straight.

If you're driving straight down the road, you'd be correct to say that caster won't have any effect on tire wear. But I highly doubt that's what you were referring to. As soon as you turn the wheel though the caster becomes camber, which is why BMW's wear the tires on the inside.

They are designed with aggressive caster in the front, and are adjusted to an aggressive static camber in the rear.

Oh, so it doesn't affect tire wear on its own. On the other hand, excessive toe will always affect the tire. Therefore, it's a larger contributor to tire wear.

Don't forget, you're right and thank you for setting me straight.

Who ever said "excessive" toe wouldn't effect tire wear?

Toe mainly effects tire wear when you are driving straight.

Caster effects tire wear as soon as you turn the wheel. I'd guess that'd the steering wheel but I doubt that's what you meant.

So I guess it depends on how much or how often you turn the wheel in comparison to driving straight. I mean the steering wheel, by the way.

I suppose it also means what the definition of "excessive" is also.

You're right and thank you for setting me straight.

I assume you're being facetious, of course I meant the steering wheel. This is a BMW X5 forum, I assumed we were talking about normal street driving. If you just want to talk about straight line performance, I'm going to guess you've never noticed how much caster dragsters run.

Normal street driven cars are driven straight most of the time.

Uh, no I wasn't bring facetious. I wasn't sure what you meant when you said wheel. Thank you for enlightening me once again.

Thank you for teaching me about dragsters, too. You're so right; I've never noticed the caster angles they use. I guess they don't care about tire wear! Do you know what toe angles do they use? I wonder what causes most of the tire wear on a street driven car, though.
