3rd time.

What spark plugs did you install?

Also....

Lots of counterfeit parts...cheap crap, copying Bosch parts, Bosch "made in" ingravings/moldings...even copies of Bosch packaging. Before yoiu decide Bosch is at fault, consider it might not be theirs. Im sure youve already launched into Bosch with the evidence from a trusted indy. But maybe he ddnt really get genuine bosch.

I think he installed only one plug. I also have a Bosch made Slovenia ignition coil from Amazon. Worked for me during diagnosis of other issues.

Need OP to clarify. I did see he exchanged #5, but still wondering what plugs are in the car.

Not to be argumentative, how do YOU know it really was Bosch made?

Just saying....

Good question. Came from Amazon itself as the seller. I’m guessing a larger verified supplier? But just an assumption. I really don’t know. You are right.

Got it working using original 0221 504 100

I also have a 2004 330ci E46 which turns out has the same original 0221 504 100 bosch made in germany coils. Which by the way have a silver cylinder section unlike the all black new ones 0221 504 470 made in Solvenia which do not work.

I swapped in a 0221 504 100 coil from my e46 to the e70 and everything is good ... no DME codes. By the way the one bad coil caused these three DME codes 2E28 29CC 29D1.

I went online and checked via Amazon the 0221 504 470 are the current offered part number for both my E46 and E70 three of which failed for me.
First one was from seller bosch on amazon, next two via RMEuropean whom I trust.

I have now ordered two used 0221 504 100 ones via ebay. I will now go stick a 0221 504 470 (new bad one) in my E46 and I expect it to also fail (miss) there too. I have a email into bosch corporate, I will post again as I learn more. Whew the multiple bad new coils caused me a good bit of trouble I as I assumed they could not all be bad. I should have swapped coils in diagnosis early. The three fault codes also had be worrying my problem was more than just one bad coil.

Smile More ... New coils work in my E46 330i but NOT in my E70 n62tu X5

New 02221 504 470 made in solvenia coil works in my E46 330i but NOT in my E70 n62tu X5. Yep that X5 is always a challenge.

My 2007 E70 4.8l X5 has a production date of 11/2006.
It last saw a BMW seller ship service via prior owner in 2014 so one might think it's software was last updated then.

my X5 has 140K miles on it 40K of which I have put on it in last five years.
My goal is to have the X5 last five more years without big $$$ problem putting maybe 5000 miles a year on it. It is my boat tow vehicle otherwise I mostly use my E46.

So E46 likes the new coils the E70 does not!

Also to unicorn the spark plug I replaced on cylinder 5 in my BMW is a Autolite APP 5224 Double Platinum. It was much cheaper than bosch oem ones and given I only ask 50K miles it seemed better to use that. So I see no misses now my conclusion the autolites are fine .... I love to find the truh. Will report back with what bosch corporate says

I am super glad I found the issue, it turned out to be what it should have been, but first I had to learn I could buy three new coils and they would all be no good for the x5. That tricked me and combined with the three miss codes rather than one I worried it could be valve train or some hidden vacumn leak. I do fear taking the x5 to anyone especially the stealerships ... they love to point out the most expensive set of things that it sort of needs, they would never just replace a coil and be done. Then frankly I don't doubt they could sabotage the car.

AFAIK, "Bosch" is NOT the OEM fror the plugs. Believe it is NGK

Many people have used 'upgraded' plugs to their detriment with BMWs. They can be very fickle, especially on turbos. Just FYI

Be interested to hear what the truth is!
