I don't think this is strictly a CIC function. All I'm saying is not all BMW's have the functionality to be updated by the owner. I don't know the exact cutoff date, but there are no software updates available for my '98 M3, '01 530i, '08 X5 (w/retrofitted CIC), or '10 535i (w/ factory CIC). However, my '15 435i (w/NBT) can be updated. My understanding is these updates are primarily for smartphone integration. I think you'll be disappointed if you hope to change the integration level of your vehicle.
