That stripe may be in the photograph...but I have my doubts as to it actually being painted or adhered to that BMW....or is it just me?

If I was a betting man...I'd put my money on that most BMWs that have stripes applied to them will 99% of the time be a model that has a 1, 2, 3, or 4 in its nomenclature (or it's a MINI ). This applique of stripes usually isn't something BMW owners with larger vehicles are into (5/6/7/X5/X7)...so you're probably not going to find a lot of example. But again, if you do a search for 1, 2, 3, 4 series BMW w/stripes...you'll probably find what you're looking for.

It ia. 2000 Oxford Green. I checked the VIN. I learned later that it belonged to a jeweler from the area. Haven't seen it many years.

Good god.

For those in the know was it the e36 LTW that started this? It worked on that car.

Back in the 70's it was rumored that stripes such as those shown would make a car at least 10 mph faster than those without.
I'm not sure now if that was only in the mind of the owner.

Nope. With the advent of computerized stripe analysis technology it has now been PROVEN to add 9.8HP

Hmmmmm. I wonder if anyone has ever put stripes across the vehicle and if the analysis shows they slow the vehicle?

Stripe pics

The stripes could definitely slow a vehicle by increasing the drag coefficient, but they can also act as a good bug deflector
