2009 x5 3.0Si Rear vision Camera

Bought my E70 X5 about six months ago, have always been hugely disappointed in the rear vision camera. The display is black and white and really poor resolution. Completely hopeless at night. The camera that looks down from the passenger wing mirror is much better, in colour and with good resolution.

I am wondering if somehow the rear vision camera is not working properly. Does my description sound right for a 2009 x5.

Perhaps it is on a low res or B&W setting that could be reset?
