Is there room for installing an Oil Catch Can

Has anyone installed an oil catch can system to their diesel engine - it appears there is very little space for a moulded hose fitting. I am considering something like this: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-turner-m...798tms01-09kt/

Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Richard

Been thinking of a similar installation. Unfortunately no one seems to offer a 'kit' with the right hoses and brackets to be plug and play. Take a look at this thread, should get you started at least.

I know it looks like something else, but follow along his progression to a Catch Can..

He also had a thread here about the custom Plate/adapter he made up..

There is room for the RIGHT can in the RIGHT location. The threads referenced above show a specific can and where it works but any can could be functional. It's also for the M57 diesel engine. You don't say what X5 you have. For the diesel, the adapter plate is critical.

Yes, any can might work. If you do a little research you’ll find that the “cyclonic” types are problematic at best but “work”. The “storage” type will also work but adds additional maintenance (I wouldn’t suggest letting it go between oil changes since a full can will do some serious engine damage). In Fact, the OE system “works” (probably better than most of the “cans” you’ll find in every anodized color of the lgbtq flag). The point I’m trying to make is not that you should use the ProVent. You could use any reputable manufacturers. It’s that it’s designed (engineered) buy a global company to do the one thing you want it to. It has an anti-syphon (one way) valve for the drain (so you don’t back feed pressure through the drain line and push the drain oil back through the filter). They also put a Valve in the return so you can’t pull too much vacuum through the can, from the crankcase to the intake. And they built in a pressure relief valve so you can’t over pressure the system.
The point is it’s actually pretty well engineered to do exactly what you ask it to. None of the anodized aluminum “racing” catch cans do that and if they did it would cost a crap tonne more than the ProVent.
Btw, there are plenty of “pro” oil separators out there that can filter down to .01m’u. They cost upwards of $400 but will outperform the ProVent all day.
So.... do what you want, it’s your vehicle. You reap the benefits and suffer the consequences of the choices you make. If you want to spend $50 for a perceived improvement, go for it. $400... more power to you. Just think it through before you purchase because you must’ve had to earn the money you’re about to spend. you’re spending that money for a benefit so get the best specific performance you can for your money but consider all the angles, it’s not just a soup can.
