Looking for Advice on e70 purchase

Hi Guys,
Looking to purchase a 2012 E70. I'm looking at putting the extended warranty on it, but the coverage does not include coverage on the computer because its over 100k.miles Does anyone have any nightmare stories on their computer going out and how much could I be looking to fork out if it happens? Thanks in advance for your help.

Welp.

Any warranty that you can buy for a car with over 100k miles is likely crap. It appears you have found one, and YOU THINK the only issue is "it doesn't cover the computer".... I be willing to bet there is far far more to worry about with that warranty.

(Ive personally reviewed detailed policies for perhaps 30+ warranties, over the years)

If you have a copy of the policy, post it.

Now, dont take this next part wrong...but... these are not cheap cars. They cost $65k. And while you can buy one with 100k miles for $6k now, the REPAIR costs are still as if it is a $65k car. The idea that you can buy a warranty to protect is just silly. Are you watching Chris Berman and Ice T selling that carp Car Shield!!? (What are you gonna do when the trans dies in 6 months, and the rep says yeah, our tests show it had been failoing for a while and that means it was a pre-existing defect, not covered'? My point here is that you think you know what is covered, but there is a vast way for you to be screwed.)

If you cant afford repair costs, buy a different car. Japanese. Not BMW.

If you think you can swing it. If you are a DIYer, or you have fmily that can, save your $$ and put it into a repair fund. Spend a bit more on a car with history. and take your time finding that perfect, well maintained, no-story car.

Thx for you reply. Although I may be a Newbie to the e70 model, I'm not a newbie to bmw. I've owned bmw for many years. I've got great mechanic friends that handle any maintenance issues that I can't handle personally. Just thought I'd throw out a feeler to see if anyone has had any computer problems with their vehicle.

does the warranty say computer or computers or ECU?

FRMs seem to be the only electronic I've heard fail. there's even a repair website. https://www.the-ecu-pro.com/bmw-frm-...RoCwMkQAvD_BwE

I think you're concern might be the valve seal issues that are common on the v8s. Then with the 3.5 turbo motors, there's, well, the turbos haha
