Introductions are in order

Newest member of the andrewwynn clan: her name is Lumba N° 2.

https://youtu.be/LIOKSvCyw8M

Years of savings and a little help from the Small Buisness Administration and hours and hours of searching finally over.

We picked her up today.

Officially wife's new ride. We sold her e53 to pay tax and title on the replacement. I still have my '01 e53.

About 400 miles shy of 74,000. I was anxious of going turbo with anything approaching 100k.

Missed out on a 35i with adaptive drive and 57,000 miles by literally 20 minutes, I took it as a sign from the universe we're supposed to have the 50i.

And introducing myself as the newest member of the E70 family.

It was an inevitable thing and I've been posting on E70 for a year or so to be in tune with what to expect to go wrong etc.

I worked hard to find a clean example that the engine runs liked new with few enough miles I can do preventive maintenance before things break.

I bought my car right at the beginning of the shit starts to break window, so I'm thrilled to find an exempla that was apparently not driven like a rental car and seems to perform like the day it came off the production line.

First impressions:.

1) I definitely prefer the steering on my e53, but the speed sensitive steering will be nicer for road trips no doubt.

2) The N63 is a work of art, praises to the powers that be that made that a thing. It makes the X5 an absolute joy to drive. I never notice the turbos at all. The base power of the V8 gets you though the start, plus my driving style is a rolling start at half throttle until I get second gear and then hammer down.

3) The original owner maxed out every internal package at the expense of leaving stock 255/18s which is just plain silly but has a nice trade-off as this will be our road trip car. 255/55/18 are far more comfy at 75-80 on the Freeway. (Added bonus of stealth: it will be a lot of fun watching sporty cars in the rearview mirror caught by surprise)

4) thrilled like a kid on Christmas for sure. We were aiming for 2009 3.0 and with a little help from SBA suddenly able to pull off 2012 50i

5) Back to inside options: as John Conner said when his mom asked how many cops were outside: "all of them, I think". Four zone digital climate, third row "Asian woman sized" seating. (wife goes on trips with her Indonesian friends where they usually have to take two cars and now can use one.

It has the DVD player and reading lights like planes have heated steering wheel and heated rear seats. The front heated seats have bias setting to balance heat between seat and back.

Very happy I decided to stick to my guns and stay with the X5 platform. We are already planning ahead that when my 3.0i 2001 finally gets retired I'll probably take over Lumba N° 2 and find a lower miles something for wife.

I'll get more pictures posted as I find time.

Very nice looking ride. I'm confused though. You mention V8 and N55 like somehow this car is both. Did you get the N55 or the V8? Either way, it looks amazing! Same color as mine, but I have the round exhaust tips because I think that's how the base model runs.

I see headlight washers so it should have cwp. That means heated seats, heated steering wheel, and heated rear seats. Should come in handy during the winters you guys deal with. Very nice example. Hope your n62 is trouble free for many miles.

Thanks for catching that! looked at too many cars. Brain fart which engine was which. N63B44A in this 50i. I did test drive the N55 and it also was very nice but the difference is quite substantial. Though the 35i had no problems getting up a steep on ramp and up to speed of traffic, but you could tell the engine was really working to do it. The 50i is smooth the entire time.

On a show and tell drive last night, I couldn't keep the throttle on though the full on ramp because I was already going 85-90 with 1/8 mile left of onramp. Never had a car I couldn't keep the gas on until I was merging.

Basically with 35i, you hear engine noise when it's working hard and on the 50i, just a beautiful exhaust note. (and the cars behind you quickly getting smaller).

The VIN decoder doesn't show the package groups but does show all the elements from the package it seems:

Wondering if that URL is permalink.

400/450* it comes on really strong at 3000, doesn't waste too much time hunting for the right gear especially if you press the throttle "to eleven" (hit the kickdown button).

A couple times I chirped tires at a 3-4th or 4-5th shift. Also full throttle from 10-50 up a steep hill was amazing.

*Numbers may be rounded I "sorta memorized" the values from 30i, 35i, 35d, 50i. I think official number is slightly different like 402HP.

The torque band works very well for how I like to drive: half throttle until second gear and then firm push on the vertical pedal enough to keep the car from shifting too early.

It's very very quick. The effort to make my e53 go 30, this car is going 50.

0-55-0 in 500ft City block.

I wish I caught the video of wife coming out when I showed up after the hand wax. Positively glowing.

I felt very similar when I acquired my e53 and I call my brother in law who got it for me at auction to tell him still love the cat at least annually.

Going to feel a little weird driving the 3.0i after the 50i but funny how it doesn't really bother me to switch. Wife always liked fast cars so she's in heaven now.

Congrats Andrew & wife! A sweet ride

I felt the same way after having the e53 3.0i on loan for a day back in late summer 2003 before I ordered my 04 4.4i. The 3.0i works well, but you have to push it pretty hard to do some routine merging and passing.
