left adaptive headlight does not turn.

Hello friends!

Is that normal that left side adaptive headlight does not turn in corners? Right one is ok... both of them goes up and down when switched on! No mistake on navi screen!

The first thing I always check on any BMW with an electrical issue is the fuse (if the adaptive headlight has an individual fuse), next check the connection. If that doesn't work its probably broken. I once bought an entire headlight assembly ($700) for my E53 and when I pulled the "broken unit" I realized the mechanical lever had popped out of the socket (picture dislocated shoulder) but to diagnose the problem I had already broken the original unit. The dealer replaced a driving light on our old E53 THREE times (under warranty). The 2nd time the light failed before I got home from the dealer. So they replaced that unit too! Eventually the SA believed what I had been telling him all along. The problem was in the wiring where the individual power lead entered the connector. FWIW I knew that because I could get the light to work temporarily if I wiggled the connector.

After I complained, we were “assigned” a new (and very good) SA

Exactly! Dealers and aftermarket mechanics love to throw parts at a problem. On my E53 I complained the steering felt "difficult". After two power steering pumps ($1K each) and a steering rack ($1,800) it was found that the steering knuckle ($45) had corroded. Problem solved. Often it is the simplest and least expensive fix that works.

I do believe that the light on the driver's side does not always articulate in the same way as the light on the passenger side. This is so that you don't blind oncoming traffic in certain driving situations. I can't tell for sure but it looks like the steering wheel is on the left side in your pic...if you're LHD (left hand drive)...then this could be a reason why the left side doesn't appear to be turning in corners.

I was thinking about it as well...because I have left hand drive! Fog light switches on on corners it means connection is ok! Carly diagnostic does not show mistake for connection! Left light does not turn when I am parked! I checked it in garage...right one goes quite far away! When I am driving I can see beam lights are turning, but I am not sure both or only right one because when right is turning it goes through left beam and eyes can not understand that!

In the scenario you present (parked in garage or stopped at a light but making a left turn, etc)...this would be a scenario where a LHD vehicle with adaptive lights would NOT turn the left headlight as far as the right headlight because it would blind oncoming traffic.

Take note of the highlighted text in this BMW info below:

Adaptive Headlights.

The Adaptive Headlights cast their beam in the direction of the curve and ensure better visibility and more safety during night drives on winding roads.

Sensors measure speed, steering angle and yaw (degree of rotation around the vertical axis). Based on this information, small electric motors turn the headlights left or right so the beam falls on the road ahead, guiding you into the bend.

Headlight beam throw control (a model-specific function) means the front headlights are raised at high speeds and lowered at slower speeds, which results in a wider beam for inner-city driving.

The adaptive headlight range control (a model-specific function) takes into consideration the vertical curve of the road. The headlight beam throw control is lowered when driving over a knoll and raised when the vehicle is in a dip.

The result: every single curve is illuminated and the oncoming traffic isn't dazzled unnecessarily. Driving at night is even safer, particularly when visibility is poor.

Adaptive Headlights are only active when the vehicle is pulling away. They stay switched off when the BMW is in reverse and when the steering wheel is turned to the left while the vehicle is stationary (e.g. when pulling out of a parallel parking space) to avoid dazzling oncoming traffic.

Adaptive Headlights are complemented by cornering lights. These are automatically activated at speeds of up to 70 km/h and improve visibility in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle, which is useful when driving along hairpin bends, turning or parking.

Hello friends, greetings from Indonesia!!
My car, E83 X3 2.5si N52N B25 RHD Automatic transmission experienced similar condition but it happened on the driver side where the headlight lens stuck on pointing to the right.
Can you show me the photo of the mechanical lever that popped out of the socket?
