I dont think those are the correct struts for a car with air level suspension...

You DO have an 'air suspension'...those airbags inflate and deflate to adjust the ride height. THAT IS WHAT IS MEANT BY AIR SUSPENSION.

Its not your worn tires. I think it is the wrong shock/strut in the rear...

Did you give FCP your VIN?.....

Those struts were for front. I'm thinking one axle air like my x5s have been.

I suggest calling FCP Euro and asking tech support if you have the right parts to achieve your goal of a softer ride.

Looking at realoem I though there are two shocks: one with air, one without.

Again this isnt an ‘air’ suspension. Its a standard ‘shock and spring’…just has airbags in the back too adjust the height. The ‘air’ part is unrelated to the ride, the damping, soft or hard…

Not sure what the point is here...
The car and driver article doesnt mention the BMW system.

Are you just pattern matching "air suspension"? as if it is one thing in all cars?

This was my understanding as well which is why I always put “air suspension” in quotation marks. I think it’s a regular suspension with airbags for extra support because of the 3rd. This is why I had purchased the parts I did from fcp.

Either way, I will call fcp tomorrow to confirm that the shocks and struts I purchased were the right ones or not.

There is no setup like you describe spring plus air. You have air or don't. Look at the axle just inboard of the wheel. You will see air spring or steel spring. Airbag is crash safety not for suspension.

No, you dont have a ‘regular’ suspension. The E70 has two versions:

1. No air, no airbags. No air anything.

2. Airbags. Or air springs or air suspension. Or whatever.

That’s it, two choices. The struts and springs between both are different.

If you have #2, and it is- basically- a standard spring and strut with an added airbag to adjust height, YOU CANNOT JUST SAY ‘I have a standard suspension’. You dont. You have a different spring and strut set up to compensate for the airbag.

Odd. Did something change in the very early E70s????

OP can hear his airbags going up and down

I feel like I am in the twilight zone bud….. I though all E70s have the same design: spring then airbag to adjust height. You say no??
