I recall someone, here or on bimmerfest that replaced the transmission (which holds the torque converter) only to find it actually WAS the transfer case. There have been a few Transfer Case reports as I recall
do you recall what the failure point in the case was ? i recall that updated xdrive had some sort of tech to infinitely vary the front vs rear axle torque, is this not true ?

I dont recall this. At least I am pretty sure the E70 does NOT have diffenrt xdrives designs/transfer cases. Taking a quick look, I saw the same functional description in the TIS for early and late x5s....
