It varies the speed of the pump in order to maintain 4000 mbar (around 60 psi) feed pressure.
The pressure and temperature sensor is near the injection pump high pressure, behind the cp3, under the intake manifold.
If you're getting stalling and low pressure pump only doing 2700, the fuel filter could be clogged, because the ECU measures the pressure past the filter.
