X5 2008 3.0sd low coolant temperature

Hi,
I have a 2008 X53.0 sd EU, and in the hidden menu i have coolant temperature at about 70 C, after 1 hour city driving, with outside temperature at about 4 C. If i shut down cabin heating, it raises to about 80 C but drops down to around 70C as soon as i turn on heating.
I replaced the thermostat but it is still the same. Is this normal operating temp values?
I checked with ista, no errors, and the temp in dde menu is tha same as on the hidden menu.

Is there something else i have to check?
Thanks in advance

First thought is the temp sensor is sending erroneous signal. Measure temp of your upper hose or read temp of oil with scanner to compare. My oil temp is usually a few degrees C over my coolant temp

Unfortunately I never used the BMW software.

You can use the hidden menu. If you haven't used Google is your friend.

Option 8. Scroll through all the option. Option No. 8 ''Temperature'' displays the outside temp, oil temp and coolant temp.

Nice that has oil and coolant same sub menu. You can exit a sub menu to pick a different (6 is for fuel) by long press Odo button.

I use this for coolant temp, in option 7

07.00 coolant temp
07.01 ambient temp

But no oil option

Hopefully one of the diesel guys chime in. In the meantime we just had a thread about a diesel not warming up with some really good info posted so maybe have a look at that.

Even the slightest difference in the seal and bypass hole in the thermostat can make a big difference so brand of thermostat is a big deal.

Is there another thermostat that I have to replace? I have been reading about 2 thermostats, the main and the egr.. my mechanic replaced only the main thermostat, he didn’t mention anything about a 2nd one. He is a new mechanic to me, so I m not sure if he knows what is going on, although the guy who suggested him, tells me he is experienced with BMWs.

These are what I've found. I did find egr cooler thermostat.

The thermostat cartridge might be inclusive of the oil cooler thermostat.

Most tstat fail open. I could see that if ambient temps are low and the oil cooler tstat stays open you might have use with getting engine coolant temp up to normal.

That said my n55 takes a really long time to get up to full temp unless I push the engine. The m57 it's even more efficient have you driven at least half hour and maybe with some hills to work the engine?

I use bimmerlink to track temps realtime and just last night on 20 minute mountain drive I noticed the temp never got to full operating temp.

I highly recommend bimmerlink for traditions tracking and bonus get to open the exhaust flap to actually hear my exhaust note therapy.
