So, there will be no manual transmission offered on the new model? What a joke! I'm glad I got my 06 man trans model when I did. I can't imagine BMW sellng very many in Europe without a man trans!!! I guess most Americans are wimps in that they want the slush box & BMW saw that?

That'll be why most X5s in Europe are automatics then! I just checked BMW Uk's site for second hand X5s - they have about 80 approved used X5s and out of that three have the manual box - I make that 3.75%. So clearly not that high a priority in UK either.

I've had two manual X5s and in some respects I am disappointed there is no manual, but then I am getting old (nearly 40!!) so the auto box is growing on me.

On the cover of the February 2006 issue of Photonics Spectra, there is a picture of the X5 interior with the nav system showing night vision ? There is a company that is making Night Vision for the New X5 but I do not see it as an option ???? on your list. The Picture is from BMWNA being the magazine compliments them. Its for Molded Chalcogenide optics which is for night vision.

I am an engineer for an optical coating company in New York

Why in the world do people with great business acumen pay a premium for a product whose supply is guaranteed to increase while the value is assured of decreasing? It's amazing.

PS If we buy in RI, do we get a grinder and cabinet while we do the paperwork?

Pay a premium for an X5? I can see paying a premium on new "M" cars... I'm #1 on the list at my dealer (just put a deposit down a week ago) for an eight cylinder E70, and I told him I would pay no more than $1.5k over Kelly's Blue Book "dealer invoice". He didn't seem to have a big issue with that... yet.
