I'll pass and keep my 'ol reliable E53. And I'm not liking the front end look of the E70...

I don't really like the front end that much either. I think it needs a little "face lift" to it...

It will be a lot harder to sell. I sold my 2004 e46 325 for 28,200 3 weeks before the e90's were released here. TWO WEEKS later, there were 8 or 9 e46's on the lot for under 24,000 with a buttload more options than mine had. But it is a sellers dream here.
It's worst on SUV's b/c of gas prices right now... Plus the E53 has a bunch of compeition that is far superior with technology. I've seen 2005 with under 20k miles for $35 or less...

I went it and got a quote for my 2004 with all options but Nav with 35k miles and only got quoted $28k when my Blue Book shows over $37k...

I'm waiting for a while to let someone else figure out all the electronic snafoos that BMW WILL make in its first model year.
Plus, E70 + increased gas prices/uncertainty = major depreciation for E53 in 2006.

Well certainly anything running on fossil fuel will be getting a lot of scrutiny, but people will give up going to the movies, happy hour at the country club, or impulse shopping at the mall before they give up the sense of autonomy and power that comes from piloting a great automobile. Cars and western culture are like opium and pre-Mao China--we're hooked when it comes to the good stuff.

I concur that the E70 nose is my least favorite part, but I give them credit for pushing the concept out a bit; but then think about how goofy the 7-series looked a few years ago. I am pretty excited about the E70, but will hold off until at least 5/08 before doing something crazy, particularly since I have 25K of warranty left.

Yes, we are planning on replacing our E53 with an E70

We love the front, the rear, the sides, top, interior, shifter, push start, and all the other technology that most people here don't like. I have an E60 with SMG and am used to the sequential shift-by-wire shifter, and since the car will be replacing my wife's E53 we are OK with the appearent availability of only Step transmissions (no manual).

So at this point we are planning on ordering an E70 3.0i as long as the price difference between what we can sell our E53 for and what the new E70 would cost is not too huge.

We ordered our E53 3.0i three months before they went into production and ours was the very first customer car that the dealer received (other than their demo). We would like to do the same with the E70, except we are worried about not seeing and testing the third row seats in person before ordering.......so we may end up waiting for the dealers to receive the E70 first so that we can test the third row before ordering.

rody

did you have a problem with your early model E53? I am getting a little worried about my E70 (deposit is with the dealer). I keep hearing about all these electronic bugs and other gremlins. Any advice?

I've got a 2003 X5 which is missing a few things that the current E53 has. The latest version of X-Drive for example. Being in a part of the country where snow is frequent and deep, and trailering snowmobiles to some backwoods unplowed areas, I need a vehicle that has the best snow capabilities possible. That, combined with the fact that I turn 50k on my car in the next few months, is the reason I've already put a deposit on a new E70.

Not buying till the X6 is out or the X5 "is" version. X6 is supposed to have dynamic Xdrive, twin-turbo V8, ZSG/DCT, more HP than X5. The new X6 V8 engine will also be available in X5.
