Question ok 2001 X5 remote key/battery
1st time posting from a BMW biker.. Been a long term BMW driver (1980 2001i, and on)... had my 3.0l X5 for 2yrs now... best handling non-sports car I've ever had... my wife's battery just died in her remote.. except every once in a while it works.. I've tried getting the key apart to replace the battery, but can't seem to figure out how.. Any help? thx Dave |

how often does your wife drive the x5?
the battery is rechargeable it think it needs to be used once in a while for it to be "charged" and avoid depletion of power. do you have an owners manual? if not, go to the main page and download the pdf file. hope this helps. (im lazy to insert the rtfm smiley)

No battery to replace. It charges when you use it. Make sure you use both keys to keep them charged.

thx.. yeah, about 5 min's after posting, I thought to myself, you know, i should go read the f'n manual.... ![]() ![]() right there on page 34---battery will recharge while system is driving.. hmmmm.. only problem is, it's wifey's key and she drives the car all the time.. but... she only drives it around town... as in, 3 or 4 mile trips.. I realized that when we go out on the road, i'm always the one at the wheel so that's probably why my key works so perfectly all the time. I'm gonna leave hers in the ignition tonight to see if that'll start recharging it more... |

you probably need to replace key. happened to me once. the battery stops recharging after many years, so that maybe the case.
you can try to 'reactivate it' using instructions found somehwere on x5world... but most likely you need to order a new key for a freaking $140 bucks or so. |
