Canadian Pricing Availability = October
Just Received the following email from BMW Canada: "Production of the 2007 BMW X5 will commence in October 2006 and pricing will be available and released during the month of October. Unfortunately, the pricing for the US and Canada do not always coincide for release dates. As soon as information is available, it will be released to the public." Patience is a virtue

Yeah but expect to pay approx. $20,000 more for the same vehicle in Canada! Take a look. These calculations are based on today's exchange rate...
Current X5 4.4i (base) costs US$53,600 ( which is CD$60,020 ) So why does it cost $76,600 in Canada??? Current X5 4.8i (base) costs US$71,100 ( which is CD$79,672 ) So why does it cost $98,200 in Canada??? Why are Canadian buyer's being scammed??? And BMW Canada is preventing people from going down South to import cars by not honouring warranties etc. And don't even get me started on the prices of parts!

aren't there different taxes in Canada that are built-in with the MSRP?

No different taxes are built in (they are added on afterwards). However, there are different build configurations, ie different items are included in the standard equipment, and the packages have different consists. When you finish making those adjustments, the prices are closer, but we still pay a premium. That has to do with a smaller market, higher transportation costs, lower population density, resultant higher costs of distribution, etc. It isn't just true with BMW, the same situation exists with a lot of distributors of similar products.

I know it sucks! 100% SCAMMED! But we get scammed on everything compared to our southern neighbor! Everything is much more expensive! I just bought a SONY 46XBR2 LCD and it really really hurt me because the final price was like C$2000 more than the States! You know: 6% GST 7%PST 3% luxury tax AND the hidden taxes/levies/tarifs/enviromental... BS! Taxes are the reason. Oh, well we have somethings that they don't have, like free safe injections sites for the drug addicts! Our government has to pay for those things somehow!

For some reason all car makes are charging a lot more in Canada above the exchange rate? Granted, packages are different and some items are standard, but there is still a premium being charged to Canadians.
