The ML500 weights 4800 pounds. The 4.8 X5 weights an incredible 5400 pounds! Also, the ML500 will get the new 5.5L 32V V8 with 382 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque very soon. And there is also das kaum zu glauben 6.3L AMG engine! If power is the most important factor then one should definitely buy the extremely powerful MB. But I think the X5 is overall a much better package then ML. But still I would love to see BMW match MB powerful engines or even smoke them!

Beside the crazy weight, I also don't like it that there is no height adjustment; considering the 8" or less clearance. As well the fact that the top speed of 150mph is only available with the 20" tires! What should one do in the winter time!

I don't care how much power M-B puts in the ML's, I still wouldn't want one. We all know, as you agree would agree, that despite the BMW's greater weight, it will still handle better than the M-B.

What to do in winter? Don't drive 150 mph for one thing. The clearance is probably not an issue with BMW since virtually nobody offroads in an X5. The highest clearance an X5 will see is likely a curb.

LeMans, thanks. If you are able to capture a better tobacco pic, could you please post it? Thanks.

I tell you that tobacco pic above is so nice looking and it really enhances the red wood trim on the dash. I swear I look at this interior pic of the new X5 at least once a day. I want that interior on my next BMW, love the way the Nav intergrates into the dash.

I doubt though I can afford the V8 with all the options I want so it leaves me with the inline 6, I'm just concerned that even with the increase in hp with it being close to 5000lbs will it be slugish? I'm use to my very peppy 3 series.

How about this pic? Have you seen it before? can see this one from bmw.de or bmw.uk under the X3 configurator. Definitely not look like the leather color shown in the X5 promo pic. Really worrying. What do you think?

What seating option is this with those soft head restraints? These are so comfortable.

agree on height option... it should have been offered. but regarding 150mph... it is speed limited... and they will allow it to go 150mph IF you order the 20" tires... you can still take them off and put on winter tires... and it will STILL allow the car to go 150mph (the car doesn't know which tires you have on, i think... unless it uses the run flat sensors, but i doubt it).

BUT, you should not drive that fast with winter tires anyhow... and if you are driving that fast in the first place, you better be on a track, not a regular road.
