Slalom - I was thinking the same thing. As the car is scheduled for production next week, I'll be tracking it's build and delivery progress to see how long it really takes. I assume they are trucked across the country.

If I had the time, I'd fly to SC, pick it up, and drive it back.

We picked up our X5 at the performance center on 12/21/06. They completely exceeded our expectations!! Santa Claus was even there!

We really cooked the tires on their demo X5 on the performance center track. The instructor gave me a ride for some hot laps in an M5 also WOW!!

I definately recommend the performance center delivery. they treat you like royalty! They even picked us up at the airport in a new 5 series wagon.

Going the other direction it took less than three weeks from drop off to pick-up (tourist delivery of a 3 series). That was with a Munich drop off via Bremerhaven EH Harms did the shipping. It would have taken less time if I had dropped off closer to Hamburg. Would be an interesting tourism venture to offer Europeans a tourist delivery in the US I am sure that there would be a market for this in Germany.

Hi all, this is my first post. After checking with every Houston BMW dealer and hearing 6-8 weeks lead time when ordering, one dealer emailed me saying "I have a build spot that will get you the exact X5 you are looking for in 30 days." Too good to be true? Is there a way to verify his claim?

If he is talking about 30 days to Texas "the exact X5 you are looking for" - has a production number (so can be checked on line) and is already built or will be next week. I have a January production number and I was told in December - no changes.

I'm still confused on why my E70 is being built so late..... The end of April seems wayyy to long from what I'm seeing on here. I'm sure there's a pretty fair amount of demand in Northern IL, but something seems wrong.
