I'm in the DC metro area. One dealer has offered $2,500 over invoice but then loaded the numbers with all sorts of fees and BS so we walked. Another dealer has offered $2400 under retail but we're hedging. I'm concerned about bugs, want to see an integrated I-Pod and it just seems there's a lot of stuff to happen "in the Spring".
We put the car "out for bid" via e-mail but it seems most dealers around here aren't computer savvy. They end up calling you and trying to tell you how they don't "mark up" the cars and how demand is high blah, blah blah. Then they keep calling back with progressively lower prices.
We bought our last X this way- we were patient, never entered a dealership and the car was ultimately delivered to our house on a flatbed at $2K over cost. Paperwork was done at the dining room table.
Sure beats that time consuming "check with the manager" crap and sitting at a little desk until the salesman "returns". You would think that BMW dealers would quit trying to sell these cars like they were Chevys. But I guess it works on a lot of people.
