The Porsche was just trying to make a statement without a nice ride.
Well said!!

Have you had a lot of problems with RR sport and would you stay far and away from them? I may get one in the future.....
I have the full size Range Rover and was considering the Sport to replace it. I agree re. the looks and my wife drives the RR so the X5 will be mainly her car. She wanted the Sport (mainly for the looks) but after all our ongoing and recurring problems which I also heard from other owners of the Sport we deceided on the X5. If you could spend time listening to people at Range Rover's service dept. you would never buy one. Endless stories about numerous problems that are recurring re. every model. If I call them and tell them that I have a warning light they say don't worry it'll be gone tomorrow. I think they are selling cars to new land rover owners because of the looks but I would love to know what their repeat % is. I know 4 people that have the RR Sport and not one of them is happy with it, but their wives like them.

All that being said If the X5 is unreliable I'll never hear the end of it.

The X5 feels like a sports car vs. the RR. The RR feels heavy and ponderous in comparison.

The RR has it's looks, but that's all it's got.

Well I am glad I went with the X5 over the RR sport. I think it would have been one big headache. Its funny to read an RR forum. Each member consistly prays that their car is not going to the shop or that they did not become one of the "lucky" owners who has problems with their SUV......

I think your post adds another vote of confidence.

On the other hand, I saw the 2008 Cayenne this past week at Porsche of Arlington (next door to BMW) and the SUV looks great. I have no idea in terms of reliability how it stacks against a X5 but I think they did a great job with the headlights and overall its looks aggressive.

you also have to consider that even if the Cayenne matches the X5's reliability (or the E70's fails to be any better than the not-so-reliable Cayenne.......), at least BMW's maintenance warranty is better. May not matter in terms of defects (should be covered by both warranties), but you never know and BMW definitely has a better overall warranty.

Yeah, free service including brakes is nice.

same here. i was deciding between the x5 and the RR. loved the exterior look and the offroad of the RR, not so keen on the interior, performance and reliabiity. and after reading a RR forum, x5 was definately the way to go.
