I thought the same thing, that the headrests only go up and down. But if you take a good look at the buttons on the seats that adjust them you'll notice that one of the buttons has 2 "toggles" sort of embedded in it -- when pressed, those "toggles" automatically move the headrests forward and backward.

Not on my X.... The manual says...

Front seats: setting the angle of the head restraint

Swivel the head restraint.????? I've tried it and it does slightly, but doesn't move front - back.

The 2 little buttons you are referring to are comfort seat shoulder support.

I make no reference to the Invision System, I'm referring to the OEM head restraints.

Whether or not, I was just giving you the Safety Satrdard Code (202-A). This is the whiplash test. My life revolves around Headrests and Head Restraints. The Mercedes-Benz 202-A Compliant feature is also called Neck-Pro.

AGAIN - this post has nothing to do with value added. please stop posting about the invision system. like i said, it does nothing to solve my issue. further, one a separate note, headrests do not have only one purpose. while safety is obviously their most important function, comfort is also a factor. bmw, and most other manufacturers, allow you to adjust the headrest forward and backwards, while still meeting safety standards. i went from my 03 e53 to 07 e70. the e53 moved enough for me to rest my head a bit while on long drives, and still allow me to see the road and my mirrors. i dont know if the sport seats are further back than my old seats but my headrest now is much further behind my head than my e53 headrest in the fully back position.

On my Sport seats the headrests move backwards and forwards manually. The trick is to pull or push the bottom of the headrest rather than the top!

Yes they do.... about 1 inch! Not enough to make them useful.

the head rests on the e70 do not tilt forward enough to rest my head on long trips. can they be replaced?

Couldn't you use the headrests from an e53 sport -providing you don't have one of the newer colored interiors. Further the e53 headrests have significant - forward tilt axis. Makes no sense that BMW would design semi -fixed head rests with "any" seat package.

The manually adjustable folding headrest feature of the comfort seats - which are similar to a business/first class airline headrest are cool.
