Shop around, I did, and got a better date. If you look, you will find dealers falling over to give you the best date, simply because they want the sales. only the really full wons cannot. Don't forget these dealers are making approx. 12K on each car sold.

Eh?

Since when has 8% (the UK standard operating margin for BMW dealers) of a £40k-£50k list price been equal to £12k??

An internet company discountcars.com were (maybe still are) offering a sizeable discount on the E70, I got an official quote emailed to me and took it to the last dealership that I had bought from (530d SE) and said that I would place an order there and then if they matched the quote..... they did. Initially gave me a June delivery but then said they had a cancellation for a launch delivery in April and gave me the option to take it up. Other local dealers have full order books until the end of the year.

In the US there's only about a $5500 (USD) margin from invoice to MSRP... So, I don't see a 12K markup here either, more like the 8% you mentioned.

Well done Mate, Sounds very good, What was the official price quoted by the internet company? What model and spec were you offered for that? What delivery date did they give you?

Can you tell us which dealer you approached to take advantage of the discount offered.

Quote was £38479.00 for the standard 3.0dSE (as stiil available now on *.com web site) dealership I used matched the basic at the discounted price, but no further discount on the extras, good enough at that though.
Black sapphire, saddle brown, dark bamboo, sun protection glass, running boards, stuck with the standard wheels, but then tried to change wheels at last minute and couldn't... that's when I found it had left the factory! Dealership is part of a very large group, but I don't think they would want to advertise discounts, just yet.

so that's a discount of £1,726.00 over the UK list price...however I bet the internet brokerage would never have been able to keep to their "promised" delivery date as the official supply took up the availability and the delivery date kept moving back. That's my extensive experience of buying a car that way - lots of promises, little delivery on them - hence why you took the order to the BMW dealership.....

Pretty close, the BMW dealership they promised would make contact with me on a number of occasions, never did.

Dealers do get the car at more than 8% less than the list price. After payment to BMW Main Office invoice / Allocation discount / Mass selling over target hitting etc (depands on the sales area), they get the car alot cheeper. However for BMW staff to buy etc.. normal operating discount only apply. A BMW Dealership manager will be able to tell how much the car really cost them.
