Viewed New X5 at launch yesterday

We finally got to see the new X5 in the flesh yesterday, when we were invited to the launch at a local dealership.

I was actually surprised at how different it looks in the flesh (better). The photos of the dash make it look like a whole new dash yet when you actually compare them in the flesh it is just an evolution.

Rear seat leg room is obviously a little better, as is the boot space. I really like the look of the car with the 'y' spoke 20's (214), but you cannot get these without opting for the sport pack which you then option out the seats to get the comfort seats (which are on hold because of production delays errr....)

I like the familiarity/similarity of a lot of the items for an all new model to the old, eg switches, steering wheel, seats etc

I disagree entirely with opinions against the 3rd row seats. They are clearly not for adults and I think they've done a very good job without killing the load space.

My wife loves the lower height of the bottom tailgate piece.

Test drives are booked for next three days but have put that off 'till Friday as have other cars to drive.

Overall I like it.... doesn't excite me or make me want to trade. Wouldn't be looking at one if mine wasn't needing to be offloaded... but then I haven't driven it yet and you all say that's the best bit...

Hi LVR,

Which dealer did you go to the launch with? Had you not seen the car at the motorshow before?
I am off to BMW Melbourne tonight for another viewing.. when I made some comments to the dealer about the changes the comments were "it's evolution, not revolution"..

I have already ordered the 4.8i with all the options including sports pack, 20" wheels, roof, 3rd row seats, adaptive drive, heads up display etc etc.. I got a really good deal to get out of my E53 hence the decision to get into the E70 straight away.. the E70 is due July.

Also thanks to this site I was able to get the dealer to find out about the Aero Kit, Tow bar, M Series and things like the auto tailgate... funny enough they will have an X5 with an Aero Kit tonight contrary to them denying it's existence.

No I didn't go to the motorshow as you don't usually get to sit in, explore etc so thought I'd wait.

So did you get an aero kit fitted? How much was the E70 on road? They were quoting me (rough) $140k on road for a 4.8 with comfort seats, sport, 20's roof, paint.......

I spent some time in the car at the motor show, they let everyone jump in the cars and have a real play.. I had the sales rep with me and he went through the whol car with me, the Lifestyle guy was there also so we went through all the options..my 2 yo boy was jumping in and out of the E70's, they didn't really care.

They havn't got a price on the Aero Kit yet, they should have something tonight for me.. and yes around the $140K mark for the 4.8i..

Interesting thing though, you can't get the towbar added if you have the Aero Kit.. my opinion is they really botched the towbar installation, it was a big afterthought and it looks terrible..

As much as I want the Tow Bar, I prefer the Aero Kit more..

Judging by the US prices listed in this forum for the Aero Kit, I think it will cost around $3-4K AUD for it.. it seems to be double the US price.

There are so many unanswered questions with the E70, it is getting really frustrating.. I have a May build for delivery in July but if I don't get the answers I may have to can the order.

Which dealer are you getting pricing off.. I heard that anyone discounting the new X5 would get sacked immediately.. BMW Australia official stand is no discounting on the new X5...

i think you might be able to get some discount on the x5 but not much. i went to the dealer in sydney and i was quoted 2k discount on a fully loaded x5. in the end i decided on a convertible in sydney and x5 in the states. so try to get some discount or wait a month or two since there are still some problems with these early x5s. but then again. 2k off a 140k car really isnt much.

Agreed, I got a lot $thousands more for my E53 than I hoped and a small as you say "token" discount on the E70..
I actually bought my E53 from BMW Sydney as I have a relationship with the guy's up there, but was quickly told they "could not" sell me the E70.. politics of a Melbourne buyer buying from Sydney...

Never the less I think I got a really good deal based on the pricing and trade of the E53.. I felt it was time to get out of the E53 before the price drops through the floor.

I have allways found cars sold in Sydney are cheaper for some reason and they sell more of them than anyone in the country...

Hi All,,
Just got back from the launch - my E70 that was due in July is now not due until September..
No Comfort Seats
No 20" Wheels
No Rear Blinds
All are in short supply.... I did however see the Aero Kit on a 4.8.. an absolute must have, it gives the car a finished look..
Also not available in Australia is the Active Steering and Auto Tailgate and they had no idea the M version is being released...

So what is available in OZ?

dimma

Let me get this straight ..... they have launched the E70 but all are either sold or in short supply with whatever options they have ..... anything that has been ordered has been put back etc etc

The only reason I ask is I'm after a 2002 or 2003 4.6 Black/Black and was hoping for a bit of a flood to the market!

If anyone in Oz is getting shafted on the above ..... send a message

The E70's being delivered this month are the ones that had been on order for the last 5 months.. I ordered my car in Feb this year.. you will find the options in short supply do not only effect the Oz builds.
