I wonder if all of the UK dealers are getting a 3.0d SE dynamic as their demo built to that same spec. My dealer has one exactly the same and I went to see it on Wednesday as my car was supposed to be on the same transporter but failed to materialise.

I agree with ISUK that the spec could have been improved upon to sell the car more, again IMHO. I really like what I saw both from a sheet-metal design and a quality perspective. I too had an order for one of the first E60s and I walked when I saw the quality of the materials and bought my MB instead.

I.m not sure about the third row though. The seats are very narrow and there's only about 6 inches between the seat squab and the floor.

I'm now looking forward to Saturday to pick up my car.

cpd1,

I never ended up going for the 535d. I opted for a Cayenne V6 instead and have to say it's the best "daily driver" I've ever owned. I've ordered a facelift Cayenne S with a sizeable number of options including a new 21" wheel design and a new two tone natural leather interior option. I was blown away by the peformance of the S on a test drive and with the new direct injection technology the V8 actually gets better fuel economy than my V6!

Had I gone for the X5 I'd have had the 3.0d with dynamic and media packs, pano roof, 20" wheels, head up display and a few other toys which took the price up to £53.5k. I was even offered a good discount by my friendly dealer due to the volume of business I've put his way in recent years. In the end I decided that for me, the Porsche offers better quality and great handling combined with impressive performance. I don't think any 4x4 offers good value these days in terms of residuals so I'll enjoy that V8 magic and forget about the £ss I'm losing whilst doing it

I'm confident that you won't be disappointed with the E70 though. It is streets ahead of the previous model in terms of both space and looks and the technological advances will ensure that it is a great drive.

Fastbuck,

BMW GB allocate all dealers exactly the same spec launch cars these days so they will all have a titanium 3.0d SE. I guess the rationale is to show it with minimum options but most BMW's end up getting at least 5-10% of the base list purchase price spent on extras so I don't think BMW have a great launch strategy. If I was responsible I'd load the cars with the latest wow factor extras and ensure that dealers within a 50 mile radius of each other were given different colours/specs so that potential customers could travel to see a car they might be interested in spec wise.

Good for you. The Cayenne is a great car, I have fond memories of my Turbo when I was living in the US
The E70 is more suitable for my wife, not sure what she would do with that V8 My daily driver is a 911 C4S so that's a good compromise to keep the family happy
Enjoy it tho, it will be a blast. I have nicely optioned the X to £55k much to the delight of my friendly dealer

Nice choice of car as your own daily transport

I've got a 997 Turbo tucked up in my garage for those days when I feel a need for speed

My dealer implied to me that he will have more than one car around for the launch weekend so I will be interested to see if he has a higher spec car also. It's surprissing that BMW GB have specced a realtively basic spec car, I know for example with thte new M3 that the demonstrator is going to be relatively high spec (someone has posted the BMW internal memo on another forum). My dealer told me that he had been told by BMW GB that he had to order a Sport body kit so one of them should have the bodykit, assuming they have time to get it on ahead of Thursday night.

Went to my dealers launch event this evening. They had three cars on display silver, black and space grey with three different interiors black, beige and grey. I was quite impressed that they had that variety of cars. It really is a fantastic lookign car and is quite a beast...markedly bigger then the old X5, it hides the extra length very well...the extra height being the most noticeable. Also very impressed with the interior packaging, genuine room for four adults which nothing else apart from the 7 series offers. It is going to be a huge success in the UK. Full marks to the dealer for having that range of cars on display.

For a variety of reasons I am going to wait order a September build slot car to see if there are any updates to specification in the normal annual model update. Definitely only going with the Dynamic Pack as I think the car looks great like that, really don't think the Sport will add enough to justify the extra £2k.

Also went to the launch, dealer only had a black with beige interior. Just wondered how the grey interior looked ?

My car also been delayed till next week, looks like BMW have run out of drivers to transport them.

The grey actually looked really nice. It was in the Space Grey car which I would say is unusual but looked great as a combiination. I have had black leather for practicality in every BMW I have had but having seen the grey I am seriously considering it. In years gone by the grey leather used to be a very light colour but this was much better. Thinking of going with Monaco Blue with the Grey interior for mine.

Monaco Blue and Grey interior is the combination I have ordered. Along with Aluminium trimming. Bought a little blind, and you put my mind at ease.
