Installer damaged paint..what would you do?

Well here is the situation. I had my new e70 at the dealer install 3M clearshield. The installer did a very poor job installing the product, frankly a hack job. I have more seams than a soccerball! There are numerous wrinkles, white marks and work marks all over the front end. So now it has to be re-done by another installer at another shop. Someone that knows what they are doing. I had a couple other installers look at it and they were appauled at the workmanship and the install. Problem is when the original install was done the guy cut the film while it was on the car now the paint is damaged and cut where the original was. This guy was supposed to do a "custom job" and was highly recommended by the dealer. I was going to have it done by another place when the dealer said that they could do the same exact job for the same cost. Now I have to deal with the dealer telling me that they will refund the cost of the original work which is $399.00 and I have to have it re-done at a cost of $500.00. I told the dealer that they will pay for having it re-done and any paint damage will have to be repaired. Unfortunately the only way to repair the cut paint is to have the front all re-painted which I do not want to have done. I am getting resistance for accountability from the dealer. This is factory paint and a $100.000 vehicle that was damaged. I know a new replacement vehicle is extreme, but what would you do? I welcome your input and suggestions.

I would hate to have a brand new car repainted, but outside of getting a completely new truck, I don't see any other choice. I'd hate worse to drive around in a vehicle of that value, or any value for that matter, with cuts or scratches in the paint.

That sucks man, sorry to hear it. Especially since the 3M was supposed to protect your car from scratches...........

I will wait and see what the dealer proposes and hopefully have an amicable resolution before I give out their name. I have a meeting on Monday morning.

You took pretty much every available option with that car and it deserves to look great. So I would repaint (I hope it is the hood only).

BTW, what is the ceramic tint, I am not familiar with that option.

I was going to get this 3M protection but now I am not so sure ... Good luck with the dealer.. if he recommended the guy then he is at the very least partly responsible and should assist to rectify the damage. btw How much does this sort of protection cost in Canada/ US ?

I just had clear film installed on my E53 after getting the hood repainted. I had so many rock chips that I got the whole front end re-finished. I used a local shop that does great work. They said they no longer use the 3M products for the high-end vehicles. Apparently they show weathering very easily and start to turn yellowish in color. Can't remember which brand he used but it looks amazing. I had the hood, side fenders, bumper and mirrors covered for CD$450. Looks like a new vehicle!

Yes a lot of places do not use 3M anymore. There are better films out there. Clearshield, Baekert. It wouldn't be so bad if this was an older vehicle I could live with the re-finishing, but this is 2 months old.

There is a place here in Sydney Australia that uses 3M or a product called VentureTape/Ventureshield... I don't do a lot of country driving .. mainly city so I don't think I need to invest in this after all...I have to get my car first so maybe I should concentrate on that first !!!

$450.00-$600.00 hood, bumper, mirrors, fender.
