Unhappy What is causing the battery drain?

Every time I open and try to start my X5 I have been getting !High Battery Drain! messages. What is causing this?

* Is it the 24/7 spinning CD / NAV mentioned in other threads?
* Could it be I am not switching off the car properly? I press the start/stop button to stop the engine and then press it again and make sure that the NAV screen goes of with the BMW logo. (Am I switching off correctly?)

If anybody else has experienced this Battery Drain problem, how did you fix it? Is IDrive update the solution for this? Thx

Take it to your dealer.

Angry Same problem..

I had the same problem with mine, except mine TOTALLY DIED. The battery was "bad". I had to get a jump and limp the POS to the dealer. Man, I was steamed. What if this happens on a long trip? I need to depend on this car and my current opinion of it's reliability is now in question. I've had other issues too, check out my other post on "Dead Battery". This is my third BMW and this is currently the most painful one I've had and I've only had it three weeks. I hope it improves.

I just had this High Battery Drain message for the first time yesterday. Said there was a drain while the car was parked. This AM all OK. My message said if it happen again to take it to the dealer so we will see. I have prem sound and nav and comfort access but the X5 seems to know to turn all off when I lock it.

I have had the X5 since April and this was a first

Had it twice now. No ill effects, it just cleared itself.

I also received the message about 6 months after taking possession.

Hooked it up to a battery charger and it had a low charge. I only have about 2,500 miles on it and take short trips. I was also using the auto venting feature too.

I have a trickle charger and I was thinkiing about running it overnight but was worried it might do more harm than good. I gather you charged the battery fine.

Does the "auto vent" feature come standard on all of the E70's, or just with certain packages, or does it have to be ordered seperately? If it is standard how do you access it to set it up?

I am not sure if the auto venting comes with the 3.0 model.

I know my old X5 you had to get the 4.4 model and I wished I had known. It does cool the car off at the time you like.
