my terrible experience at Mckenna BMW in Norwalk, CA

So i went to Mckenna BMW in Norwalk, Ca today to test drive the C5 4.8. After wating for 15 mins & not being greeted or even acknowledged by anyone in the place (although they were helping many other walk in customers right away.. i do look young & was wearing board shorts & a tank top to head to the beach) I got a hold of the receptionist who paged a available sales personto come & help me... No, one came right away even though there were many just walking around & goofing off in their offices/cubes... finally a lady from the used car side comes over & tell me that she head I need help.

So we walk to the used car side of the building, and sit at her desk... this is now the conversation went:

BMW: So how can I help you?
Me: I would like to test drive the x5 4.8.
BMW: Are you here to buy a X5?
Me: Isnt that what we do here? (laugh out loud as a joke)
BMW: laughs back, No, but are you planning on financing or leasing?
Me: finance
BMW: so you want to look at the 3.0?
Me: well i already test drove the 3.0 and it did not have enough power for me.
BMW: do you know what options you are intersted in?
Me: i like the panaramic sunroof, so i would get the premium package & am considering the sport package.
BMW: Well the 4.8 starts at 54K and the 3.0 starts at 45K (she whips out a chart that shows the base MSRP and HP figures. The options on the 4.8 will bring the cost of the car up.
Me: well I am here to test drive the 4.8 because I felt that the 3.0 did not have the power i want
BMW: OK, let me show you what I have on the lot for the 4.8. (pulls up computer screen) I have these 4.8's available, and as you can see they are in the $70K range... they are basically fully loaded..
Me: well I dont need to select the options right now because the power is what I am concerned about so I would like to test drive the 4.8
BMW: ok we'll do that, but before we do that let me show you....
Me: you know what, its ok, i dont need to drive it, you obviously dont think that i can afford it.
BMW: But i was going to take you on a test drive
Me: Forget it (standing up & walking out the door)

sux, and to think... i get my 11 serviced at McKenna Porsche..

I used to live in the area and McKenna is famous for this kind of BS! Forget McKenna and head down to Crevier BMW. You'll have a much better purchasing experience.

That would steam me pretty good. But you did the right thing by walking out. I never understand why dealers and their dumbass sales people think they can act that way.

If you don't mind Palm Springs, the dealer here is excellent and the sales manager I deal with is an absolute pleasure.

I had a similar experience at my dealer...ended up buying at a dealer 600 miles away. I went back to my dealer and spoke with the owner and told him about my experience, he was embarressed. He then brought me into the service department and had them set me up as if I bought my car from them. Now when I call for service I get great treatment.

Sometimes I wonder how these guys stay in business. When I went to the Acura deler the same day, I had the exact opposite treatment...and the saleswoman was extermly knowlegable about her products...it really annoys me when I know more about a product than the salesman, but sadly thats the case at every BMW dealer I have been to. WHY?

Try being Hispanic with an Asian for a wife. She has a 525i and my X5 tried to get service done here @ Tom Bush BMW FL, where we bought her 525, and I get looks like I either stole it or am the person that needs to be washing them!

BUT, the older gentlemen in the 7 series got everything but a **** job right next to us in the service center lane. Whatever!

uuh...no but they sure held their hand out when it came time to purchase. I think they were pertubed that they weren't able to recieve their additional financing kickback when I gave them a check!

I feel you. It seems like you live somewhere in JAX and almost all the high end dealerships fall behind others in terms of quality of service, knowledge, and honesty.
