Here's what I have learned after driving my E60 for a couple of years now:
-The "Accept" screen comes on US model BMW's. Most (if not all) other countries don't have the Accept screen.
-The iDrive has to boot up, which takes around 30 seconds. If the doors are locked then the boot up process will start when you unlock the doors. If the doors are not locked then it will start when you pull the handle to open the door. Usually I try to unlock the car with the remote while I'm still walking towards it. Then by the time I get in, buckle up and start the car iDrive has booted up fully.
-Up until a couple of software versions ago the "Accept" screen would ONLY go away if the iDrive knob was pressed. As of a software version released sometime last year (CIP 21.x or 22.x ??) it WILL go away automatically, but only after staying on the screen for about 8 seconds or so. The current software version that comes on the E70 (CIP 25.x) should already have this feature.
-If you press the iDrive knob to make the Accept screen go away before iDrive has booted up completely then there will be a delay of several seconds before the Accept screen goes away. The boot up has to be complete for it to go away.
Even though this boot up time and Accept screen seems bad, it used to be a lot slower and even worst than it is now. They have improved it in the past year or so.
Again, even the earliest E70's should already have the software that does not require the iDrive knob to be pushed for the Accept screen to go away.
